Sunday Post #71

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

So it's been raining, a lot. This is unusual for Southern California, and I'm not complaining because we can always use the rain here, but weird. Today is the first day in like seven days (?) we haven't had rain. The sun was shining and it's beautiful. I went for a "run" (more like jog/walk lately). Here's a picture from my adventure today and one from a few days ago:

Sunny day run

Dry but on the verge of a rain. Rare time of dry this last week.

Loved After Sundown. Finished it early this morning after a marathon read yesterday. People in the aftermath of a coronal mass ejection (massive solar storm) that knocks out the power grid for everyone on the planet. Survival story that makes me want to buy a place away from it all, live off the grid, self-sufficient like. Bears Behaving Badly was a whacky, fun, sexy adventure! While I was a little stressed starting Iron Kissed for the 3rd time (cause I knew what was coming) it was such an amazing story. Patricia Briggs' writing just runs circles around most authors out there. So good!

Watched:

My husband has grown tired of my end-of-the-world stories. Have no clue why, could it be the end-of-the-world-pandemic we're facing now,? Lol, for some reason the situation has me looking up all those kinds of stories to watch.  Out of consideration for my husband's more normal reactions to the pandemic we watched The Spy Who Dumped Me. Love Kate McKinnon and yes, it was pretty funny. Still managed to get an end-of-the-world story with The Day After Tomorrow (5th time watching? ) in so yay me! I have no idea why I'm so bent on them lately.

How was your week?

  1. Some of those survival stories do make you just want to go off grid, don't they? :) And ooh I don't think I ever saw the whole thing of Day After Tomorrow. I think I saw parts of it? Funny how we're drawn to those kinds of stories even in a pandemic! I saw the Krakatoa eruption last night and had to laugh- what next??? :)

  2. I can't watch anything too serious these days - I want action movies and explosions :D
I'm also reading a lot, which is very nice, and thank goodness for the online community, which saves my sanity.
Have a good week ahead, stay safe and healthy, and happy reading.

  3. Unusually, for the UK, we have had a week of glorious sunshine! So I have spent my days reading and sunbathing in the garden... what pandemic?! 😉 Also a happy and blessed Easter you and yours, Rachel! ✝❤

  4. Omg, you live in CA, so jelly...although I should have known with your header. I hope the rain is letting up. Happy holiday!

  5. When you talked about the rain in SoCal, all I could think about was the episode of the OC, when it rained, and they were all really depressed. It's been blustery here lately, and kind of cold. It's in the 30s right now, which worked out, because there was not room in the fridge for our Easter ham. I hope you enjoy Beach Read. It read more women's fiction for me, but I thought it was excellent.

  6. I've seen The Day After Tomorrow a bunch of times, too. It's not the best movie but definitely "fun." Stay safe and healthy and happy reading!

  8. I'm watching a lot of Pixar/Disney at the moment. Could be because of Disney Plus or it could be because it's all my brain can handle... Who knows?

I need to get started on Silver Borne to keep up with the Mercy readalong but my brain is saying no to most books at the moment. :(

  9. I think that The Day After Tomorrow must be one of my husband's favorite movies so I have seen that one quite a few times myself. I agree with you 100% regarding Briggs and how she handled the events in Iron Kissed. She is such a pro. I am happy to hear you enjoyed After Sundown since I have had that one on my radar. Have a great week!

  11. Always the Last to Know looks tempting. I've only recently started reading Higgins, so I'm still working on her older books. Enjoy your week!

  12. The weather seems to be as crazy as the world right now. Hopefully all that rain doesn't cause mudslides or flooding!

  13. Glad the sun was out, and you got to go outdoors. After Sundown, looks good, glad you enjoyed it. Ha, I love dystopian tales but yeah, not feeling them right now.

  14. It’s been raining on and off here too for a few weeks. My husbands home from work for a four day weekend so we’ve been watching a lot of action movies.

Wishing you a great reading reading week, good health and a Happy Easter 🐣

  15. We've had a good amount of storms this week too. I've definitely missed being able to escape the house for a walk with the dog on the trails.

I'm with your husband on the end of the world front. My boyfriend has been watching these kinds of movies, but I just can't get in the mood for them!

  16. We are fortunate to have great weather the past few weeks with rain about one day a week. I jut found out I won the Goodreads giveaaway for Always the Last to Know. I've really enjoyed her life fiction books of late and I enjoy the audio which I may try to get that for review.

Have a healthy, safe week! Happy Easter!

  17. I hear more rain will be coming in tonight. I am glad you were able to get out and enjoy the brief sunshine. Hopefully there will be more of that in the near future. All your current reads sound good. It's been ages since I last read anything by both Briggs and Davidson. I've always enjoyed their books, so I have no excuse.

I hope you have a good week. Stay safe and well.

  19. Yay for the extra rainfall. I know how water is a treasure around there. We got two big thunderstorms this week and quite a bit of rain with them and now are looking at two more days of rain so we probably don't have to worry about a drought either.
I've enjoyed a few prepper books over the last year or so that made living off grid sound like something worthwhile. :)
I like Day After Tomorrow and I don't mind end of the world stories except the plague ones. LOL

    Happy Easter, Rachel!

  20. Look at that blue sky. Beautiful. What a welcome sight after all the rain. We have several days of stormy weather coming up and I'm actually looking forward to it. I love a good rainy/stormy day. Three great reads in a row is pretty impressive! Beach Read sounds so cute. I definitely have my eye on that one.

  25. I'm in Maine, and we got 16 inches of heavy snow in my area on Thursday and Friday. A lot of the state was without power. I'm so thankful I didn't lose mine. A lot of people had their power restored, and then we had a windstorm on Monday, and many people lost it again. So, there's that. But, it was Easter weekend, and even though I was alone, I was able to attend a church 'service' from my living room, so I was thankful to be able to do that. Whew! What an unload. LOL

I started the Mercy series recently, and now you have me excited to get to book three!

    Thanks for sharing. :)

We got more snow, I'd rather take yours

  27. I'm from Southern California too! I love the rain so I Was happy...it's not like we can leave the house anyways lol. And YES to being into post-apocalyptic stories. I am obsessed with them!

  28. I've heard really great things about Beach Read, and recently won a copy of Always the Last to Know! I hate how negatively authors and publishers have been impacted by the virus. A lot of books are pushing back their publication dates, and cancelling events (understandable), but I also saw that there hasn't been a new book added to the NYT Bestsellers list since March. Crazy world.
