Sunday Post #74

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

Well, it seems like we're cooling down a bit after temps topping 100 degrees this last week. Thank goodness! We'll be in the '80s next week. On the bright side my vegetable plants are doing well despite the heat. I have a bunch of tomatoes, zucchini, peppers and potatoes growing rapidly.
My ankle is slowly getting better. I used a compression bandage while working and I've tried to ice and elevate it when home. It seems like it's going to be awhile before I'm able to run or hike which is driving me nuts. I did a an online spin class which didn't seem to aggravate it, although I did take it really easy.
Since I'm mandated to wear an N95 mask at the hospital with ANY patient, not just confirmed Covid-19 cases, because patients can have it without symptoms, and we continue to have deaths from Covid-19 at our hospital, I don't know that opening everything up is a good thing,  BUT I am happy some parks and hiking trails are opening up.  Honestly, I have no idea why they were shut down in the first place since it was easy to keep a distance from others on our local trails anyhow, but whatever. Good news, IMO. Would I get my haircut or go to a restaurant? Probably not.  I doubt those types of businesses will be open here for a while yet, but it seems other states have different ideas.  I guess we'll see how it all turns out.

Call It Magic was a lovely romance with paranormal elements. I plan on starting the series from the beginning after enjoying this seventh installment.  I love the Lady Darby series and so I was thrilled to get the newest release!  I'll be posting my review soon.

I discovered Kerrigan Bryne's enchanting historical romances last year so I'm thrilled to get a copy of her newest. Love Maisey Yates so she's an automatic download for me. I'm starting from the beginning of Janet Chapman's lovely Spellbound Falls series.

We've been binge watching Forensic Files, which I've watched for years, and Heartland.

How was your week?

  1. Rachel, pleased to hear the weather has cooled to a more bearable temperature now, that your ankle is a little better (sounds like you doing everything you should to help it heal), and that you have been enjoying your reading. I am also rather jealous of your vegetable patch! Take care and happy reading this coming week! 🙂

  2. I am appalled that local shops are opening despite the rising number of cases.

Here in Dubai I am glad that things are under control. we are mandated to wear masks whenever go out and submit to temperature checks before we enter any establishment.

  3. Sorry you are unable to run, but at least it sounds like your ankle is healing. My grandfather grew veggies and fruit in his yard in Brooklyn, when I was a kid. I loved being a "farmer" with him. Your garden sounds marvelous! I think they were worried about gatherings in public places. My mayor sends an email every day giving us the updates, and he has often said that sports cannot be played on the fields. So, I am assuming people are playing sports on the fields.

  5. I also worry about the rush to open things up, and I'm glad that things will move more slowly in my senior residence.

Stay safe, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  6. I love Kerrigan Bryne!! I was psyched to snag a copy of this because I love this series! Things are opening up quick here. Next week, salons can open. The week after that, dine in restaurants and bars can open. So, by the end of May, we will be totally back to normal. No masks required. Its a little scary. We went from "we have to stay isolated to stop the spread and flatten the curve" to "All clear" in about 8 weeks.

  8. Wow 100! We are going to get to upper 80s this week. I've been enjoying the 60-70s here. My garden is doing well also. I was happy to see that Janet Chapman series is at my library as it sounds interesting.

yeah, we are staying home. I think it will get much worse before it gets better. I am grateful I can choose.

    Take care and happy reading!

  9. Wow, hitting 100 already? We've hit the low 90's a couple times but definitely not triple digits. Yet. It's only 75 today and feel simply delicious outside. Glad the ankle isn't giving you fits. Hopefully it will heal up quickly. Call It Magic sounds lovely. I like a slight paranormal element is romance sometimes.

  12. It has been a bit cooler here the last couple days too. I'll take it for now. All the windows are open and there's a lovely cross breeze through the house. I'm sure the high temps will be here again soon, so I'll enjoy it while I can!

  13. I am not in a big hurry to get things open. Of course, they don't ask me :) I do go outside and take a few long walks everyday but I worry about how things are going to look in just a few weeks. I am happy to hear that your garden is doing so well. That is something that I have wanted to work on but never have. I hope your ankle continues to improve. Have a great week and enjoy all of your new books!

  14. Whew, yeah, dropping down to the 80's sounds more doable. We're still just clipping 60 during the day and I've kept my veggies in pots that I can drag in at night out of the frost.

I'm hoping to read Stroke of Malice by the end of the month since I'm on A Brush of Shadows right now.

Hope things go well with California's opening. We're still closed until at least the end of the month though some parks and a few more types of businesses were opened back up.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  15. Good to know your ankle feels a little bit better! Now I have stopped trying to understand the different measures taken for the Covid! Stay safe.

  16. Hope your ankle gets completely better soon so you can get back to being active! And I agree that it seems a little crazy for things to be opening back up---but it's nice to spend a bit of time outdoors. :-)

  17. I think hiking would have been great too, but unfortunately, too many party-goers here ruined it for us and everything was eventually shut down. I would love a good day out though!
Have a great week! Heal up fast! :)

  18. Things are slowly opening up in Kentucky, but little by little. I'm still not planning on changing how I do much though because most of my immediate family is high risk in one way or another. I'm glad your ankle is getting a bit better - sorry you can't really hike or run at the moment though!!!

  19. I'm concerned about premature reopening as well, I know that I'm not going anywhere I absolutely don't have to for a while yet! I do love going out and walking though, the fresh air and just being out in the sunshine helps so much with the cabin fever!

Wow can't believe it got so hot there already. We've had sun here but it hasn't gotten hot yet. I'm liking the 50's/ 60's we've been having although 70's/80's sounds a little better. :)

  20. The only thing that closed here was higher education, school from grade 3 up and restaurants and bars, and now everything will open, sigh.

  21. I'm glad things are starting to cool off. I'm not a fan of triple digit weather. It's good to hear that your ankle is starting to heal up. Hopefully you'll get to walk and hike soon. I'm nervous about the reopening, but glad it's being done slow and in stages. I need to check out forensic Files. I use to watch Dr. G and forensics fascinates me. Enjoy all of your new books!
