Sunday Post #105

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

Well, this has been some week. We've been so busy at the hospital with Covid patients!  This is no joke people!  We even lost one of our beloved physicians on Thursday. He was older and had a lot of health issues, but was still plugging away. Covid was the last straw.

On Wednesday, while at work, I didn't realize the extent of the all the chaos that happened in Washington DC until I got home and my husband filled me in.  What a disaster, but not all that surprising to be honest.

In other news, I got the second dose of the Covid vaccine on Thursday and didn't feel so good Thursday and Friday. Among feeling sore all over, I had weird hot flashes. I seem to be in the minority with my reaction though, as my co-workers only felt sore at the injection site and not many other symptoms. So good news for most. My sister (she also works in a hospital) got her first dose last week and didn't have any symptoms other than a little soreness at the injection site.  I hope vaccinations role out fast for everyone else!

Peril at End House is a re-read by audio for me. I think the last time I read the book was at least ten years ago, if not more. The audio was fantastic! Hercule always makes me laugh. Wrong Alibi wasn't my cup of tea and ended up being a DNF. The Wife Upstairs was a surprising, twisty take on Jane Eyre. Daylight was a page turner!

  1. Oh I am so sorry to hear about your physician! And all the cases. It really is scary seeing how bad this is getting, and how so many are still not taking it seriously. I hope too that your discomfort from the vaccine fades quickly.

I like that cover for Peril at End House. I should get that one. I've been seeing good things on The Wife Upstairs.

    Be well this week!

    1. I'm just about 100% again, but even with the symptoms I'm not sorry to get the vaccine. I'm happy I was able to get it. You might like The Wife Upstairs.

  3. Rachel, I am so sorry to hear about your Covid numbers at your hospital, the loss of a beloved physician and of course, the storming at the Capitol building - You are all in my prayers. ❤ My week has been tame in comparison, but still confusing and worrying, as schools opened and then closed again, and a third lockdown started. Here's to a more peaceful upcoming week for us both! Take care and happy reading! 🙂

  5. Sorry to hear about your co-worker. Things with the virus just seem to be getting worse. --sigh-- You're ok now, right? Glad your reaction wasn't more severe. The reactions to the vaccine seem to be like the virus symptoms -- all over the place.

    1. I'm just about 100% again. Even with my reaction I'm happy I had the opportunity to get the vaccine early. Yeah, it does sound like that.

  6. I am so sorry to hear that you lost a co-worker. It has to be hard to see so many sick with this virus while a lot of the world won't take it seriously.

    1. I know! I was doing an echocardiogram on a covid positive patient last week (2nd infection for this guy) and he was telling the doctor he didn't believe in Covid, and yet he's in a hospital bed on oxygen. *sigh*

  7. I am sorry for your colleague Rachel! I don't know when I'll get the vaccine but probably not before the summer unfortunately... Now I couldn't believe my eyes with the capitol events!

  9. Sorry things are so bad in CA. I read an article in the NYT that said LA is close to having every 1 person in 10 infected. That is just insane! I hope you all are able to stay safe.
I am hopeful I can get my 1st dose in February. The governor has said any teacher in a school that is currently or will be back in session full time in person by March first can get vaccinated in February. We have been full time with students since August!

    1. Yes, they say don't go out unless you absolutely have to. Covid is everywhere. About 80+% of our hospital patients are covid positive. We've started rationing things like oxygen and dialysis we're so overloaded.

I hope you get the vaccine soon! It would give you peace of mind having to do in-person teaching!

  10. Well I am so happy to hear you are vaccinated and will now be safer. I'm at the bottom group to get it in our state. I'm not old enough or having enough conditions to be earlier. So we continue to stay home. Sedition - maddening but not unexpected. I hope their will be some accountability for this now. You have some great looking reads - exciting!

  11. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of the doctor at your hospital. So sad. :( Wonderful that you got your second dose, though. My husband got his first on Friday and we both have such a feeling of relief. I imagine it will be quite a while until I can get one, but just knowing he is vaccinated makes me happy.

  12. I am sorry to hear about the loss you had from a work colleague, this covid stuff can be scary since it affects ppl so differently. Its been a crazy week, but honestly its been building for four years and after this last summer, I am not shocked by it, but I am so sickened by it all, as a conservative, its shameful and horrible to see.

Hope you have a much more peace filled week!!

  13. I'm sorry for your loss. I am glad that you have gotten both doses of the vaxx. Ah, so that is what The Wife Upstairs is about! Thanks for the info. Have a good week!

  14. Ah, poor you for such a reaction to the vaccine, and sympathies about the loss of your doctor. Fun that you listened to an old Agatha Christie. That Jane Eyre retelling caught my eye when you reviewed it earlier in the week.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  15. Sorry to hear of the loss of your co worker. I liked Wrong Alibi more than you did. I am looking forward to listening to the wife upstairs. Have a great week.

  16. Oh goodness, I am so sorry to hear about the physician you work with. COVID is just going crazy in some areas. It's scary. I'm glad you got the second dose though. Bummer you had worst symptoms but you do seem to be in the minority, which is good overall. LOL I hope you are feeling better though!!! I'm hoping that things will start moving quicker with getting vaccines out once Biden is in office. *fingers crossed* I plan on reading a lot more Agatha Christie this year!

  17. What a week! So sorry about your co-worker. I think these next few months are going to be hard ones. But hey...you got your second dose of the vaccine. Yay for you! And here's hoping this week is a lot better.

  18. I’m so sorry, it sounds like you’ve had quite the week. I’m glad the vaccine is doing the rounds, they’ve opened loads of centres in the UK to start processing everyone.

Hope this week is better for you.
