My Thoughts:
Abby’s school crush walks into the bar where she works but doesn’t recognize her. It’s been a while since she’s seen him in person. Mostly she sees him playing football on TV as he’s the star defensive end for the Chicago Squalls.  She ends up helping him and they reconnect when Rex proposed an unexpected offer. Of course, Abby’s heart sings at the prospect, but she’s also wary because of the massive crush she had on him. Abby’s had a bad history with romance and her motto now is “if it’s too good to be true it usually is”.

The story had me cracking up, Abby was hilarious! Their “meet-cute” wasn’t so cute, but pretty darn funny!  I loved that Abby was super sweet always thinking of other people and saw Rex the big-hearted man underneath all the gruff exterior he presented most of the time.

Love the fake relationship/marriage trope when you know deep down it’s going to turn into something more! I got all kinds of heated, intense vibes from Rex and figured he had it bad for Abby even though I didn’t know what was going on in her head. Abby obviously had it bad for Rex but didn’t want to believe that he could feel the same and would be horrified know how much she wanted him. I loved the playful banter between these two! The text messages were so much fun.

Homecoming King is a slow-burn romance that heats up to quite the scorcher! It didn’t take me long to breeze through the pages the story grabbed up all my attention! I was all heart eyes and happy smiles by the end.

4.5 Stars

Book Description:

Rex "TW" McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn't bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn't keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he's always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.

Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She's dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.

The guy who just walked into her bar.

The guy who doesn’t recognize her.

The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.

The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.
