Sunday Post #183

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

This week we've had ongoing construction, spraying texture on drywall, installing trim and painting after moving a wall in preparation for our kitchen renovation. Also, finished up moving a doorway to our master bedroom which was another area of drywall dust which gets everywhere even with covering things up.  I've been cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. I got home from work on Thursday and didn't sit down to eat until 9:30pm. Cabinet installation starts on Wednesday.

It's been raining a bunch and Monday night it snowed which I didn't realize until I was about to leave for work. Didn't park my car in the garage (filled with trim and other construction materials) so it was covered in ice and snow. I had to quickly scrape off so I could see driving. Our first snow, but it pretty much melted by the next day. This is all new to me, coming from Southern California.

On my way to work.

Absolutely loved The Bullet That Missed! The audios are so good! Best Man Rancher was quick and fun. I've been meaning to read the Experiment in Terror series for ages and now I'm finally doing it. By audio of course. I have all the e-books, and so far my library has the audios. Will be starting book 3 today. Dark House actually kind of scared me, which is tough to do with the written page, me anyhow. Movies have such an advantage with sound effect, scary music and visuals. Might've been because I was home alone a few nights and I do get a little spooked not having my husband here at night. More so since we've moved up north because we're kind of out in the country now!

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I borrowed a library copy of Desolation Canyon since I was invited to read The Devil You Know. I read the first book in the series, and liked it well enough. I was a big fan of P.J. Tracy's Monkeewrench series, but this one has a different tone and is set in Los Angeles, not my favorite setting, so we'll see how it goes. I got the library audios for Dark House and Red Fox.

I haven't posted much or even been on Instagram this last week. Too busy.

How was your week?

  1. Wow you are busy! And look at the white stuff! It's been unseasonably warm here- kinda weird for Michigan to have 60's this time of year.

    Aww beautiful cat!!

  2. My week was busy with moving out of our house, then my son getting sick. I am resting/relaxing today and the next few days before we complete our move to Ohio and things get crazy again. Have a good week!

  3. That's a long day for you with work and cleaning. I am sure it will be well worth it. Wow, snow. I am struggling with that as I sit on my patio and it's almost 80. It's going back to the 50s on Tuesday, but I am enjoying my outside time while I can. Yates' books always hit the spot. I have not read many cowboy books, but I have read a few of hers.

    1. Yes, it's been real cold here. It'll warm up a little bit this next week with temps in the 50s instead of 40s like this last week. I do enjoy Yates!

  4. Construction and snow. YOu have some challenges, although the snow won't last yet. I'm trying that new PJ Tracy series but have not read the Monkeewrench series. I want to because it's set in MN where I went to grad school and lived for more than 30 years.

    1. I think the snow doesn't last for long here for the most part, but I guess they did have a big snowfall last year and were without power for 2 weeks! I loved the Monkeywrench series. It's great by audio.

    1. Love Osman's series! You're in for a treat. I've read all the Monkeywrench series by PJ Tracy and enjoyed it, but just the first book of the new series. It was okay. I'm hoping I warm up to the series. Thanks! It was a little better this last week.

  8. Yeah, that drywall dust is something the way it can get into every nook and cranny. LOL, your scare from being alone at home with a spooky read has happened to me a few times. That series by Halle does look plenty scary. Snow and rain are great for California, but yes, driving in ice and snow is no picnic.
Cute pick of the great orange hunter there.
    Have a great week, Rachel!

    1. Drywall dust is the worst! Yes. I get a little spooked at night even without reading a scary movie! Not a smart move on my part. I am so happy for the rain. It's been raining a lot here and I'm happy for it. Yes, he is a hunter! If it moves it must die, lol! Thanks Sophia! I hope you had a nice week too.

  10. Oh my goodness, drywall dust is the worst. It feels like you'll never have clean surfaces again. lol So wild that you had some snow... especially since I'm currently running the AC and it's 83 outside. Ha! Hope your week is off to a great start, Rachel!

  11. Welcome to the life of snow and frost in the mornings haha I bet you aren't used to it. Hope you adjust to the change quickly. I recommend warming up your car at least 5-10 minutes. Those PJ Tracy books look very interesting there! Hope you enjoy them.

  12. Construction can be very stressful, but it will all be worth it in the end. I'm jealous of your snow! It has been in the high 80's here this week. I'm so ready for some colder weather!

    1. It is stressful! I'm hoping it turns out the way we planned/imagined. My daughter is in Austin, Texas right now and she had 80 degree weather but it's a colder forecast for this coming week. Highs in the 50s, so maybe you're cooling down too?

  15. We got our first snow too! I was prepared for it because I've spent most of my life in Colorado. Good luck with the construction! I hope it's worth the hassle.
