Sunday Post #197

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

It has been some week. We've got a boatload of snow this last week and we've been without power since Monday and no Internet since Wednesday. We had a text from PG&E saying they hope to have the power back on Wednesday.  No date from our Internet service. We've been okay since we have a generator and plenty of firewood, but we haven't been able to drive out from our street since Tuesday. Finally, today the snow melted enough that we were able to leave before a new batch of storms were set to hit. I guess this isn't the norm. Our neighbor said that this is the second worst storm he's seen in the forty years he's lived out here.

We're now staying with my sister as she lives about a twenty miles south of us and isn't quite at the level where she gets as much snow so she has power and Internet. Yay!

So, as I was about to write this post up I received three emails from Blogger on three different posts, two from 2015 and one from 2014. They put one post behind a sensitive content warning. You can see it HERE. I guess the covers are a bit racy, so I wouldn't contest that warning. The next post was deleted for "violating our illegal activities policy". It was a book review for Untouchable by Ava Marsh. You can read my review on Goodreads HERE. Not sure how my review is supposedly promoting illegal activity...  and this book was published by Berkley! The third post was unpublished by them for "violating their Malware and Viruses policy". I have no idea what triggered that one.  In each of these emails they gave a link if I wanted to dispute their decision and they'd review it. I'm just wondering is it better to just ignore and leave it or should I have them review? These posts are several years old, so I don't care if they're not up anymore. Does anyone know if there's any negative impact by just moving on?

I ended up reading/listening to a lot of books with being snowed in. Two were novellas, though.

A winter wonderland.  It would be more wonderful if the power and Internet stayed on, lol. It was sunny for two days but the clouds came back today. I guess we're in for another big storm, a lot more snow so I'm happy we're at my sister's house now.

How was your week?

  1. Damn so much snow!! And I saw Greg being flagged for posts by Blogger too! No idea what's happening there!

  2. Blogger hasn't flagges me as yet, and hope they never do. That's a new one; never heard them getting so involved in the blogs before.

    1. This is the first I've been flagged and it's weird being it's on posts from so many years ago.

  3. Thank goodness you have a generator! I have Sandy flashbacks (8 days no heat or hot water or generator or internet - it was not good). I hope you don't get hammered too hard by the pending storms. At least you can enjoy some family time. Greg mentioned last week that one of his Movies That Suck posts was tagged. He was also puzzled by it.

    1. Your situation was definitely worse! I'm happy we have a generator so we had hot water, power, and heat when we needed it. I'm happy to be at my sister's house now so we don't completely deplete our propane.

Yeah, not sure what's going on with Blogger. It seems so random and unfounded.

  4. I haven't had blogger for years so I wouldn't know except that they used to do that to me quite a bit which is why I went self hosted. Not sure why its suddenly happening now though, that is really interesting.

    1. Wow, they did? I can understand why you'd go self-hosted then. Blogger is easy for me which is why I've stayed with it. If they start giving me a lot of hassle we'll see.

  5. You are the fourth person who has gotten a notice from Google recently. I am wondering if these are actually coming from Google or...

Oh my! No power! That's rough.

    1. Glad it's not only me, although I feel for the other bloggers. It's nice to know I haven't singled out.

  6. Man oh man, this winter! Will it never end?? Here in Seattle, more snow later in the year than ever and tho it's nothing like back east, it's bad for here - and we're still having frosty mornings which is unusual. So many interesting books in your stack! Some I have to read and some got added. I read Hounded w/ the readalong and liked it. Have a terrific week and I hope the weather lets up soon!

    1. Sorry to hear you're having a long winter, too. You're right, this isn't as bad as some areas, but we're not used to this in California. Hope you get warmer temps, too, Terry! I'm ready to move onto spring! :)

  7. I'm so sorry you've been without power and internet at your house. That's the worst! And it seems like blogger has been busy flagging lots of posts from the past lately. It's happened to both Greg and Sam. I'd be inclined to ignore it, but I don't know if that's the right thing to do or not. Good luck with everything this week! I hope they get your power restored.

    1. I think I'll ignore it unless they start flagging more.

Thankfully we have a generator so we had power when we needed it, but no internet sucks! I was still able to post with our weak cell service. Go figure. I'm grateful my sister has an ADU so we're again with power and Internet. I hope they restore it all too, but we had a new round of storms coming our way, so we'll see. We're leaving for Cabo San Lucas on Thursday and will be there for a week, so hopefully this mess will be cleared up by the time we get back! :)

    2. Fingers crossed! And have an amazing time in Cabo. :D

  8. Wow you got a ton of snow- I hope the Internet and everything are restored before too long.

You got flagged too! I was wondering the same thing about appealing- although my email mentioned updating to conform to the Community Guidelines for an appeal. But they didn't say what the issue was! Which I thought was odd. Anyway... yeah I don't know what happens if you don't appeal. Does the warning just stay?

    Gorgeous picture!

    1. I don't mind them putting a "sensitive content" warning on my blog post. I am more concerned about them deleting a post because they allege it promotes illegal activity. It's book review on a murder mystery. How can that be promoting illegal activity?! The one they say has malware or viruses I'll just let go. I could delete all the links (purchase and author) and then submit it for review, but I don't really care to have that post live anyhow.

      Delete
    2. Yeah I'd be concerned about that too. The issue I have is they don't really identify the problem... and especially so on your post. Like, if a human was reading it, seems like they'd see it's a book review and not anything illegal...

  9. I think its weird that its flagging posts from nearly ten years ago. Not sure if I'd bother, but if they flagged another batch, then that would change things.

Gorgeous views, but yeah what a pain for it to block you in and cut your power and wifi. My friend in Grass Valley and my family in Browns Valley say they've never seen it like this. Glad you've got a respite at your sister's and hope this new line of storms don't do damage for you.

I read a similar stack as you with the Cold-Blooded Liar and Kevin Hearnes. Ooh, you snagged that Murder in Post-Script. I'll have to see what you think.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

    1. I think I'll do as you suggest, Sophia and leave it be for now. It is beautiful, but I'm not thrilled with dealing with the power and internet outages or with being blocked in. I'm grateful my sister has a space for us! We live in Grass Valley and my neighbor did say this is the worst winter they've had since last year's "snowmagedon" where they didn't have power for two weeks. I think we're heading to being without for two weeks again.

      Thanks! You too, Sophia!

  11. I've been watching on the news about all the snow out your way, it's crazy! I also saw another blogger, Greg at Book Haven, who has had some things flagged on Blogger. It's crazy that they're going back and it's obvious that there isn't really any reason for what they're doing anyway. I hope it doesn't mess anything up for your blog! Have a good week and here's hoping the snow stops and you get things back to normal soon.

    1. The storms out here in California, all over the state, have been insane! Not sure what's going on. The flagged posts are so random and from so many years ago! Not sure what's up with that. I hope it doesn't either. Thanks, Lisa! You too!

  12. Wow that is quite a week. I wouldn't be excited about the loss of power and Internet. I don't get why they are flagging stuff from nearly 10 years ago. Sorry it didn't get set up for you to join the room for the facebook chat. I hope next month will work as you are set up now. It's 3pm eastern so that's 12 noon for you I think. I started that response to my Sunday post and realized when I got back I hadn't hit submit. UGH.

  15. Oh my goodness, that's some serious weather you've been dealing with! Nice to know it's not the norm, even though the photo is gorgeous. Blogger seems to be flagging posts like crazy just out of nowhere. It's weird.

    1. The weather is crazy here, but I guess it's been crazy all over California. It was forecasted to be a dry winter. They really got that wrong! Although, we were in danger of severe drought conditions so I guess this is better. Or kind of better. The flagged posts just seem so random to me and from almost ten years ago! Nuts.

  16. It been nice and warm here which makes it odd to see snow in other places. Hope you get your power back on.

  17. Sorry to hear about the bad weather! I'm glad you're able to stay at your sister's until things are fixed! I hope the weather stays good for you.

I have no experience dealing with Blogger flagging posts. I've read other bloggers who've had similar issues and I'm not sure what the best way to handle your situation is. Good luck!

    1. Thanks Jenni. I hope the power comes back soon too. At least, we'll be on vacation soon and won't have to worry so much about it. I hope it'll all be resolved by the time we get back.

Yeah, I think I'll leave the Blogger issue alone and move on. If they flag more posts then I'll do something about a review. Thanks!

  18. I know one other blogger got an email like that about a movie review he did. I thought someone had flagged the post but maybe not. Strange.

  19. Okay that is incredibly weird with Blogger. I don't know what I would do. That is such a long time to go without power and internet. I am spoiled! I hope you have a great week!

  20. These winter storms have been wild. Big Bear has been all over the local news because of the problems there. So many people stranded and without resources. My daughter is going to science camp next week in Idyllwild for with her school. I'm pretty sure they're expecting rain while they are there. I am hoping the cabin they are sleeping in is heated.

I had heard about Greg's problems with posts being flagged by Blogger. I am sorry it's happened to you too.

I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week!

  22. That's crazy you all got so much snow! I hope that things are looking up, and at least you're at your sister's which has the internet and power!!! The Neighbor Favor is on my list - curious to see what you think.

  23. That's so bizarre about Blogger. I just read about that happening on someone else's blog (Greg, I think) and it was also for random posts from years and years ago.

  24. Nothing like vague explanations to ratchet up the stress, right? Good luck with those messages. Hope you get it sorted. And I hope your power is back on by now. I've loved Hounded and I always love Karen Rose, so I'm super excited about this latest one.
