The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week. I'm also linking up to The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance @Readerbuzz.
This last week was tiring. Work was crazy. Tuesday I was overtime waiting for the cardiologist to supervise two outpatient tests. Can't run them without a Dr. present. He was talking and talking in the other room to a higher up, making us all wait!! All the while snow was piling up outside! I didn't have the car with chains, because snow wasn't forecasted and my husband drove it down south. We had over a foot of snow fall. Thankfully, they plowed the hospital parking lot right before I left and I was able to get out of there. I couldn't get to my house because the roads were so bad so I went to my sister's (about 20 miles south of me) because the highway was all downhill and I had a better chance of making it to her house. I made it there, spent the night, and the snow melted enough the next day that I was able to get home by the afternoon.
Most of the snow has melted so I was able to get out and walked 3 miles. Everything is green! We did yard work planting several boxwood in front of the garage. I want to plant star jasmine there as well, but didn't have room in the car for all the plants and dirt. Will have to make another trip.
Read:
(Click on cover for Goodreads link)
Skin and Bones was a novella in the Mike Bowditch series. I'm catching up after grabbing a "read now" for the latest installment. I listened to The Shop on Royal Street (book one of the series) after receiving an invite or book two. I wanted to make sure I liked the series before accepting. The story was really good and I'm looking forward to the next one. I do recommend reading book one first as there's an ongoing story arc. Hexed is a re-read for me for the read-along hosted by Anne @Books of My Heart. Such a fun series! I recommend the audios. Luke Daniels makes the series come to life!
Received/Purchased/Library Lend:
Yep, I downloaded a bunch, but I'm excited about every one of these stories! I better start reading fast.

How was your week?
Wow that's crazy about the hospital! And the snow. Like come on dude, we're WAITING. lol Love the greenery also.
ReplyDeleteYour cat is cracking me up too. I thought my cats invented some strange positions for sleeping but that one's great!
I know! It was frustrating. My cat makes me laugh a lot. So glad I got the photo, haha!
DeleteCats!! You've got to love those tiny furry weirdos. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYes! He brings me so much joy! You too!
DeleteOMG Rachel I admire you for driving in these conditions! I would have been terrorized! And to think that you go from one foot of snow to spring in the same week is crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt was very stressful, Sophie! I'm hoping that's the last of the snow for the year. I'm ready for spring!
DeleteThat's a really cute cat photo!
ReplyDeletebest...mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks!
DeleteI don't know how you drive in weather like that. It must have been frustrating to have been held up as you watch the snow pile up.
ReplyDeleteHotel of Secrets has a fantastic cover.
It was totally frustrating. I was white knuckling the steering wheel the whole time! The car did really well, though.
DeleteI agree! The story is good, too!
My cat does the same, almost falls off the couch! lol And yes, happy reading - looks like you have few to dive into!
ReplyDeleteLol! Cats are so much fun! Yep, more than a few, haha!
DeleteCrazy weather! Sorry that doctor was so inconsiderate. I have Hotel of Secrets but haven't started it yet.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to say goodbye to that day for sure. Hope you enjoy Hotel of Secrets as much as I did!
DeleteThat's a lot of snow! I LOVE that cat photo :) I'm looking forward to Happy Place. Henry is a consistent good read.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't as much as the previous storm, but I didn't have to drive! Yes, I've enjoyed all of Henry's too.
DeleteI can relate to the tiring week, just for different reasons. That's crazy about not being able to get home because of the snow. Thank goodness you can get to your sister's in a case like that. Meet Me at the Lake has been on my radar. I'm going to wait for some reviews by trusted friends. I got an invitation to download the new Shalvis book and I think I'll go for it.
ReplyDeleteYes, they plowed the main roads, but the one to my house wasn't done and I didn't want to chance it being my husband wasn't around to rescue me if I got stuck somewhere.
DeleteHope we both love the new Shalvis, and I'm excited about Meet Me at the Lake.
Yikes! I am glad that you could get to your sister's house and wait out the snow instead of having to drive in dangerous conditions. And the next day looks like a beautiful reward for all that snow. :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm so happy my sister is close. It wouldn't have been such an issue if my husband hadn't left for Southern California that morning. He could've picked me up, but we didn't know. Oh well. I'm loving all the spring blooms peeking out! :)
DeleteThose pictures are night and day. It's amazing how quickly the weather cleared up (but STILL caused you so much grief). Your cat - LOL! Love it! Meet Me at the Lake was so good. I hope you like it. I finished Morgan McBride yesterday. The series continues to be lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteI know! Crazy, right? My cat brings me such joy and so many laughs. I'm looking forward to Meet Me at the Lake and so happy to hear you enjoyed Morgan McBride!
DeleteYour cat's having a relaxing nap time. I'm reading A Girl and Her Cat with stories about cats and their owners. Cute.
ReplyDeleteYes, he's the king of napping, lol! That and going in and out of the house 500 times a day! Thanks. :)
DeleteIt's crazy you could get that much snow come down without it being forecast! Glad you had somewhere safe to spend the night when you couldn't make it home.
ReplyDeleteI know! Me too! I'm thankful my sister is close by and at a lower elevation.
DeleteGlad you were able to get out of work. Being stuck at your job is the worst!
ReplyDeleteYes! I probably could've made it most of the way home, but I didn't want to chance it with my husband not around to rescue me if I got stuck.
DeleteWell you are adjusting still to a new home and work situations. It sounds like your drive to work is farther than I thought. Spring should be a help there. I am itching to plant the basil and tomatoes but that's at least a month away. The cool crops are going well but those babies need heat. Right now I need to get on the weeding and fertilizing and soil improvement. Thanks so much for doing the Read-along with us. Enjoy those new reads!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I live 8 miles from work, but there are some twists, uphills and downhills. Also, they plow the main road, but not the little residential roads, like the one to my house. I probably could've made it but I didn't want to chance it with my husband out of town and not able to rescue me if I got stuck.
DeleteI only planted some flowers and boxwood. I need some fencing before I can put in a garden to harvest vegetables. I did buy some garlic and shallots to plant, though. I'd love to put in tomatoes and zucchini. I might grow some basil with hydroponics. Your gardens are doing well!
Thanks! I'm enjoying the read-along!
It's crazy how much snow we've gotten this year! One of our ski resorts just broke their previous record with 800 inches. Of snow! I can't even wrap my head around it. And your cat totally makes me laugh! I love that pic.:D
ReplyDeleteI know, that's insane! Tahoe, which is an hour away had a crazy amount of snow! He's the best! I love him to death! Thanks! :)
DeleteWhat a wild bit of weather you had. Glad it melted quick so you can get out. Glad to know that Karen White series turned out good.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Rachel!
I know! The weather has been crazy. Winter doesn't want to let go. Yes, it was really good. Looking forward to the next book. You too, Sophia!
DeleteThat is horrible that you were stuck at work while the snow was piling up! I am glad that you were able to make it to your sister's home. I hope that you have a great week and enjoy all of your new books!
ReplyDeleteI know. It really stressed me out while waiting on that dr! Thanks, Carole!
DeleteThe snow looks beautiful in your picture. Too bad it caused you so much trouble for getting home. Glad to see a couple of the book on my spring TBR on your list!
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty. I just don't want to drive in it, lol!
DeleteLol that a silly cat...or is it a dog? I can't tell.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
It's a cat! He's a hoot sometimes! You too!
DeleteWe got some snow this past week too, but not nearly as much as you did. Your cat is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the amount of snow we've had this winter/spring! I'm happy it melted quickly with this storm. Thanks! :)
DeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a bad week. Hopefully, next week will be better for you!

I love the snow, too, when I don't have to drive in it! :)
DeleteSometimes I'm really glad we don't get snow. I am looking forward to the 80's at the end of the week. lol
ReplyDeleteWow, you're getting 80s?! Enjoy the warmer weather, Mary. We had a nice sunny day but it didn't get over 60. Still, it was beautiful to have the sunshine!
DeleteI'm really looking forward to Happy Place!
ReplyDeleteJill

Hope we both love it, Jill. Henry has been consistently good.
DeleteLOL, the napper. So cute. Glad you could make it to your sisters and hope the snow gives way to warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteHe is the cutest! I love him to pieces! I was lucky to have her as an option. We've been having warmer weather, thankfully! Gorgeous sunshine and even though it didn't break 60 it feels wonderful just having the sun. :)
DeleteThe weather has been so crazy. I can't believe all that snow and then it melting so quickly. Glad you were safe, Rachel. I like the covers of those Karen White books. I have a few of the same books on my shelves as you added. I hope we both enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteI hope that's the last of the snow this year, but you never know. Thanks! I'm happy I had a place to go. I hope we enjoy them, too, Carla!
DeleteCutie cat!
ReplyDeleteOh no, glad you made it to your sisters then.
