Sunday Post #176

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

Our heat wave finally broke after ten days but now we're contending with smoke from the Mosquito fire which is now the biggest fire, at 41,000 acres, currently burning in California and it's 0% contained. I ordered an air purifier but the smoke is a little better today than it's been the last two days (see pic below). Still, my eyes are burning. Hopefully, the cooler weather will help with the fight.

Smoke seen from off our front porch

I'm heading to the nursery today to pick up more dirt and flowers for our new planter in the front and my husband is repairing the mess and lattice skirting around the house today.

Again only two books read this week. I really wanted to finish Killers of a Certain Age (so good!) on Thursday night to post my review on Friday, but I was so exhausted I kept falling asleep while reading. I ended up having to post Saturday instead. A Certain Darkness was another great installment to Anna Lee Huber's Verity Kent series, mysteries set in the WWI era. I hope to get more reading done this week. My husband and I are listening to Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs at night. My second time reading and his first. Loving it all over again!

  1. I hope to read Killers of a Certain Age soon, it sounds like such a great read. Aaah, I think the new Miss Marple collection is also going to be a fun read. Will see if I can get a copy!

    Have a good week ahead.

  2. The smoke from the wildfires in Idaho has drifted south into Utah, so our skies are sort of a dusty brownish blue today. We're hopefully going to get some rain this week though, which will help clear everything out.

  3. I hope all goes well with the fires. That has to be stressful. It's been dry this year in NJ, but we don't really worry about fires in these parts.

  5. Beautiful pic but sorry to hear about the smoke. And the fire- I hope they can get it under control soon. Must be so hard to deal with that.

I bought the first Huber book and am hoping to start it this week.

  6. I'm glad your heat wave broke. That picture is beautiful. Sorry you're dealing with the smoke. We're also dealing with it all the way in Utah. It's not as bad, but our air quality is already often the worst in the states. :/ I hope the fire gets put out soon. *fingers crossed*

    1. Thanks, me too! Our air quality was reported to be the worst in the US today. It was bad in the morning but got a lot better in the afternoon. Hopefully we'll get some rain to chase it out.

  7. From a heat wave to smoke... how miserable. I hope the air purifier helps. I see you added a Virgin River book. I read the first book a few years ago and wasn't wowed. I never continued the series. But my husband and I started the Netflix series and are now pretty addicted. We watch at least one episode every evening. :)

    1. I love the Virgin River series! The Netflix show did a nice job with casting, sets, and location, but I'm not thrilled with how they've changed key points. I'm still watching though. It is addictive!
