The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.
So we're out here in a superb of Austin, Texas with my daughter, SIL, and two grandkids. They've rented a home out here because my SIL's work. It's temporary with them returning (hopefully) by the end of the kid's school year. So I guess we'll probably be visiting a few more times.
It's hot and humid out here, but pretty. I think the most annoying thing for me (and the kids) are the mosquitos! I always bring a small bottle of DEET with me on trips just in case I visit an area with a lot. I'm the lucky one to get bit if there's one around. So I was prepared and only got two bites so far, even with going out hiking, but the kids and my daughter each have several.
We'll be flying back tomorrow morning (Sunday).
Read:
Click on cover for Goodreads link:
Absolutely LOVED The Belle of Belgrave Square! Open Season, a romantic suspense, had me laughing my head off. Uncharted Waters was an odd and addictive little listen, and available as a "read and listen for free" with Kindle Unlimited.
Received/Purchased/Library Lend:
I'm listening to Daisy Darker right now and it's an eerie mystery. Alice Feeney's writing is beautiful and magnetic! I've enjoyed Shelley Shepard Gray in the past so I grabbed up Happily Ever Amish. I haven't read many Amish books but I've enjoyed the ones I have.

I'll be starting this one soon. The cover is so pretty!
How was your week?
Didn't realize Texas had so many mosquitos! Enjoy your visit, nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteI didn't either! I think it's just that it's more than we get in October here in Northern California.
DeleteYeah Texas is pretty humid, not as bad as Florida, but it depends on where you are at. I am glad you enjoy Amish romance too, I am just starting to pick it up and really liking it. I do love that KU has the read and listen feature, it saves me on Audible credits sometimes haha
ReplyDeleteAustin seemed pretty humid to me. Very tropical feeling. Yep, I love it when KU offers both the book and audio version!
DeleteI guess I am used to the mosquitos though they are really only a summer issue by me. Beautiful picture, and together time with the grandkids must be a sweet little treat.
ReplyDeleteWe have quite a bit of mosquitos in the summer here too, but by October there's only a couple here and there where we live. In Austin it seemed like you step outside and are attacked or they come right in the house if you leave a door open for any length of time. It was a pretty area though.
DeleteIt always seemed so weird to me to see US families living so far apart because they had work in another state. My country is so tiny that you can cross it in two hours!
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful it's a temporary situation. She won't be moving there permanently. Yes, I think a lot of our states are bigger than your country, Sophie.
DeleteI do not want to go to Texas if I can avoid it. It's crazypants. I have been enjoying Linda Howard since I discovered her fairly recently.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Yes, it's definitely different from California. I love Linda Howard!
DeleteMosquitos are terrible. They love me. I can only imagine how bad they are in Texas.
ReplyDeleteSame here! I told my husband I wouldn't move there for the mosquitos alone!
DeleteHope you at least had a nice time on your trip. I need to try something by Krista and Becca Ritchie. I also want to read The Belle of Belgrave Square. Hope you have a good week too!
ReplyDeleteLisa Loves Literature
We did. It was neat to see Austin. It is a pretty area and we had some good BBQ! I loved The Belle of Belgrave Square!
DeleteMosquitos are such a pain. Where I grew up the county always sprayed for them and we got used to that, then when I moved here they don't spray and you really notice! anyway hope you had a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI want to read the Feeney book, it looks so fun.
Wow, I never knew a county would do that. I guess they had to be pretty bad to do that. Yeah, I have to spray myself with DEET during the summer if I'm out in the evenings here, but by October there's only a few here and there. Daisy Darker is really good.
DeleteGlad you had a fun time in Austen despite the mosquitos. Daisy Darker is another book on my TBR list, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark! We did have fun. I'd be finished with Daisy Darker if I didn't have to split my reading time with a review book. It's one that you want to keep listening to!
DeleteI hope you love your current reads! So great that you loved The Belle of Belgrave Square.
ReplyDeleteAugh, those pesky mosquitoes!
Have a good week!
Yes! Those darn mosquitos! Wish they didn't love me.
DeleteI hate mosquitoes too. They always pick me over anyone else I'm with. I wish there was a way to keep them at bay forever.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Same here!
DeleteMosquitoes are no fun at all. We don't have many out here in Arizona, and that's part of the reason I like it here so much. I love your hiking photo! I have Ricochet, but haven't started it yet. I need to get to it soon as I'm sure I will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWe have a fair share during the summer evenings, but right now we don't have hardly any. I don't notice any during the day, and in the evening it's cool and you can cover up while sitting outside.
DeleteThe mosquitoes woke up again here, aghh, dang them
ReplyDeleteI almost never get bit by mosquitoes. I always tell my husband that I must have bad blood. I read Open Season years ago but don't remember it. Was it supposed to be funny? I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're lucky! My husband doesn't get bit by them hardly ever either. Yes, in parts Open Season was supposed to be funny. It's a romantic suspense though mostly. I loved it!
DeleteI've heard Austin is a great city, but I could do without the mosquitos. My heart gives a little hitch every time I see one of the Addicted series books. That whole series (the Addicted series + the Calloway Sisters books) is so special to me.
ReplyDeleteIt was a neat city, just not so fun for those of us that are mosquito prey, lol. I just had to spray myself before going out. It's a pain because I hate having that stuff on and you have to make sure you wash it off before getting into bed.
DeleteI was in Austin once. September. No mosquitoes but OMG the biggest crickets I ever saw in my life and they were EVERYWHERE. Inside the mall, inside the State Capitol building, outside all over the parking lots. I nearly lost my mind.
ReplyDeleteBut it is a beautiful city!!!!
I was in a suburb but didn't see any crickets. They freak me out and so loud! That sounds so freaky! I'm glad they weren't there on my visit.
