Sunday Post #181

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer book blog, and is a post to recap my bookish and non-bookish things from the last week.

I'm currently on my way back from Southern California after having a dinner/baby shower for my son and his wife. It was nice to visit with everyone! I'm happy for my son and he's excited but really nervous at what to expect being a first time father.

I've decided I need to get my diet and exercise back in order. I've been 10 pounds over my normal for the last nine months which doesn't sound like a lot but when you're 5'2" it makes a difference. Not to mention I'm not happy about the way my clothes fit. I feel like after hitting 50 yrs old it's been extra hard to shed even 5 pounds. I'm going to make out a meal plan for the week. If you don't plan it's easy to just eat whatever. I also need to get back to my regular exercise routines. I did pretty well in that area last week. I ran/jogged/walked three times doing over 3 miles each time. There's a nice trail right by my house, (which actually used to be part of the Narrow Gage railway line! See pics below) so that helps.

Daisy Darker was a haunting and tragic tale, a mystery I couldn't stop listening to. That twist! Ricochet was a great second installment to the Addicted series. Because I Could Not Stop for Death was a disappointment, unfortunately.

Received/Purchased/Library Lend:

I bought a hardcover of The Bullet That Missed but I requested an audio version from my library and it finally came through. Love this series! His Second-Chance Family is another library audio. I have an e-ARC of Vanishing Hour but I noticed they had an audio version on Netgalley and I tossed the dice and requested that too. I got approved and I've been listening to it on my drive. It's really good! My husband is enjoying it too.

Instagram:

The Belle of Belgrave Square was a 5-star read. I've read a few more by Mimi Matthews and she is such a wonderful writer! The covers are pretty too!

How was your week?

  1. I am not quite 50 (but very close) and it does seem that it gets harder and harder to lose any weight. I need to try meal planning too. This is such an exciting time for your family and I can only imagine how your son feels. Have a great week!

  3. I need to lose weight too. I hate the way I feel. Weight is so hard to deal with. It's so elusive and temporamental. Good luck with your weight loss! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  5. How wonderful that your family is expanding. I didn't realize you had some up north and down south. Good for you taking your health seriously. I wish I had your determination.

    1. Yes, my son stayed down south, but we're hoping he moves up here eventually.

  6. That does look like a nice trail. And you're right- if you don't plan meals it's so easy to just eat whatever. I've been slacking too. Good luck with your plans! Daisy Darker sounds so good. I can't wait to read that one.

Congrats to your son and his wife BTW! Yay for them! :)

  11. COVID really impacted my ability to exercise in the way that I did before. I just don't have the same endurance anymore. But I'm with you on being a little over my normal weight and needing to get back on track. We can do this!

  13. Oh I understand that, definitely sucks not having your clothes fit right. I definitely need to lose weight. I have heard your diet is the best way to do that, but I just love food so much haha I hope you can lose that extra weight. I am so happy to see a RaeAnne Thayne on your list there, I adore her stuff. I am glad Ricochet was a solid read for you, I have been hearing good things about it.

    1. Yes, I think calories is the biggest factor in losing weight, and I love food too! Exercise does help too though. I just started listening to the RaeAnne Thayne and I'm loving it.

  14. Your comment about the struggle with losing weight after fifty resonated. Cheering you on with your gorgeous trail hike and healthy meal plan. Because I Could Not Stop for Death looks good and spooky but bummer it was a flop. I've got Vanishing Hour to read still, too. Love the Mimi Mathews series.

    Have a good week, Rachel!

  16. Oh boy, I definitely need to get back on the better eating/exercise game. My husband and I were doing so well with WW for a while but slow slid back into old habits. Plus the spring /summer is just so hot that getting any exercise outside is pretty miserable. I need to get back to using YouTube exercise videos in the morning. It was a good way to start the day. I need to check my library for that Thayne book. Hers are always a nice respite from my usual angsty reads. :)

  17. I love the photo and it's great you have a trail. I'm working slowly on taking off the weight after the injury I had last year added the pounds. It's a slow but steady process. I'm with you!
